"French Open 2005 Recap"
Everybody admit it now. That was a much better
men's final than you were anticipating, wasn't
it? Everyone, myself included, figured it to
be a blowout for Rafeal Nadal over Mariano
Puerta. The much heralded semifinal between
Nadal and world number one Roger Federer wasn't
quite the match it was supposed to be. Too
many forehand errors from Federer. Credit Nadal
for pressuring Federer out of his gameplan..
I'm not claiming to have any inside info on
Federer's gameplan but I'm reasonably confident
it did not include over ten games worth of
forehand errors.
For the Huddled Masses it was another dissapointing
French Open. Max Mirnyi and Ivan Ljubicic were
both dismissed with little fuss in the first
round. On the bright side we did have a H.
M. dream men's doubles final between the Bryan
Brothers and Mirnyi and Bjorkman. Now the Bryan
boys need to figure out how to win a major
final, this being their fourth straight loss
in a major since winning the French a couple
of years back. Also a new face has entered
the hallowed halls of the masses. Sweet stroking
Romanian Victor Hanescu advanced all the way
to the quarters before falling to Federer.
The French Open seeding committee will need
to adapt Wimbledon's system of seeding players
according to the surface. Having Andy Roddick
as the number two seed is a joke. Andy needs
to give Brad Gilbert a call again before his
career is completely wasted.
How about those French fans, don't you just
love them? They boo and raise H*ll for a solid
five minutes in Nadal's fourth round victory
over French goober Sebastien Grosjean just
because Grosjean does not know the rules about
appealing a ball that was clearly out. Grosjean
clearly was trying some gamesmenship since
he was getting pummeled at the time. It worked
for a set before Grosjean got his butt handed
to him again in the last two sets.
Justine Henin-Hardenne assumes the top spot
in the Jerry Rules rankings after her romp
over Mary Pierce in the women's final. Defending
champion Myskina clearly needs to take some
time off to be with her ailing mother since
her mind is definitely not on tennis as evident
in her first round loss. Best of luck and
wishes to her and her mother.
Amelie Mauresmo chokes again. Amazing how
all that talent of hers goes right out the
door when the pressure is on.
It looked for a while like we were going
to have an all Belgian final until Kim Clijsters
was taken out by Lindsay Davenport in the
fourth round. Unfortunately Davenport could
not keep up her inspired play against Pierce
in the quarters. Say what you will about
Mary pierce but she looks good in a tennis
dress. Maria Sharapova looks good also but
she has only slightly more of a clue than
Roddick when it comes to playing on clay.
Good thing for the both of them that Wimbledon
is coming up fast. Rafeal Nadal learned in
his first match on grass after the French
that it's a whole new ballgame on the turf.
Will he make it to the second week at the
big W?
On a final note that has nothing to do with
tennis, Terrel Owens claims that his holdout
is based on simply wanting to be paid what
he is worth. I am in complete agreement.
Any man that does not honor the contract
that he has signed should be paid what he
is worth..........
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
As always, good luck in your matches.

Tennis Factoid As I predicted that Gaston Gaudio
will never win another major so
will I predict that Mariano Puerto
will never make it to another major
final. But that's what makes tennis
the great sport that it is, anyone
can have the tournament of their
life and make it to the final. |
