| BRING ON SPAIN. As everyone probably already knows the good ole U.S. of A. advanced to the semifinals of the Davis Cup after last weekend's victory over France. Led by Andy Roddick and James Blake the U.S squad was able to overcome a rare defeat by the Bryan Brothers in the doubles to advance. Although I've never been a big fan of Roddick (too much "grip it and rip it" for my taste), he has always been the first to volunteer for Davis Cup. The same can be said for James Blake. He's finally gotten the monkey off his back about five set matches in winning his last three (all against French players ironically). His victim this go-around, Paul-Henri Mathieu, may never recover after blowing two match points in the fifth. If you remember it was Mathieu who blew a two sets to love lead in the deciding fifth match against Russia a few years back. At least he was out there trying, which is more than I can say for Richard Gasquet. Gasquet passed on playing the first day's singles because of a supposed blister on his hand. Someone call him a doctor and make sure it's a heart specialist. He did come out for the meaningless fifth rubber against Blake. Up next of course is Spain on their turf. I'm willing to bet every last cent to my name that it will be played on slow, slow red clay. (I know that's not much of a bet but work with me here). World number two (maybe number one by this point) Rafael Nadal will make this one of the toughest away matches either Roddick or Blake will ever take part in. Cross your fingers. |

Recipe of the Month

 Asian Noodle Salad
1 package Asian Cellophane Noodles
1/2 cup crushed peanuts
1 can water chestnuts,drained
1 can baby corn,drained
1 red pepper, chopped into small squares
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 tb. sesame oil
2 tb. vegetable oil
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
optional: garnish with sesame seeds
Cook noodles (they only take a few minutes because they are so thin). Run under cold water until noodles are room temp. In a bowl, mix peanut butter, sesame oil and veggie oil. Put noodles in a large serving bowl. Pour mixture over noodles. Add other ingredients. Garnish with some fresh cilantro, crushed peanuts and sesame seeds. Serve room temp. |
