We love the grass! Wimbledon is underway and finishing up its first week. The competition is starting to heat up and of course Federer is on the prowl for his fifth straight championship. Visit the Tennis on TV section of our site to see the TV schedule.

Our first mixed doubles clinic of the year was loads of fun. Thanks to Concourse Athletic Club, Wild Wing Cafe, Budweiser and Dick's Sporting Goods for their support. Look for more of these events including Round Robins and Ladies' Days soon.
>> USTA State Champions Long Time Netcord Users
The Bunten Road Park Men's 3.5 team has just won the State Championship and will be going to Mobile in July for the Sectional Title. The team was 22-3 in group competition last weekend in route to winning state, dropping only 8 sets in the process. Captain Mike Hammond had this to say, "Our teams began using Netcord in the spring of 2002 in the PATA USTA league, and won a state bid with that squad also. I have captained, co-captained or played on 19 teams that have utilized the Netcord service and will always do so if I am part of the decision making process. It makes running a competitive team as simple as it could ever be."
With a win in the Sectionals in Mobile in July, the team will then be on its way to Las Vegas in October with hopes of winning the National Championship. Netcord congratulates the team on its success this far and wishes the team luck in its bid for the Sectional and then National Championship. Netcord will be sponsoring the team on these trips and help cover travel expenses through our donations. Good luck guys and bring home that National Championship!

Any player can upload or delete a photo to the team site. Login to your team's website and go to the photos page. Click on the BROWSE button to locate the photo on your computer you'd like to upload. Photos must be in .jpg or .gif formats. Enter the caption you'd like to display Click on UPLOAD PHOTO to submit. The recommended size is nothing over 500X500. The recommended resolution is nothing over 72 dpi. If you upload a photo that is too large for the page or takes too long to load, delete the photo (if it is really large, you may need to scroll to the right to find the delete button) and resize it using your photo editing software. Then just upload it again.

| The fortnight has begun and King Roger of Federer once again holds court on the lawns of Wimbledon ready to (hopefully) win his fifth title in a row. For the sake of argument let's say he wins again. Where does he stand in line when the greatest players of all time line up? Before the French everyone was ready to proclaim him the greatest ever IF he won. Of course we know he didn't and now all the experts are saying until he wins the French Open he will never be considered the best. Why? I'm not following this twisted logic. Pete Sampras never came close to winning the French but won more Majors than anyone else so does that make him the greatest of all time? Not according to the "win the French or you suck" logic. Rod Laver won two Grand Slams and was surely denied of many more Majors when, in his prime, he was barred from playing these tournaments after joining the Pro Tour. If he's not the greatest ever he's in the top two. We have to remember in Laver's time that three of the four Majors were played on grass. How many Majors would Federer win if that were the case in today's game. Probably not that many more, he seems to be doing pretty well on the hard courts. It's just the French (in reality it's just Nadal) that has kept him from being proclaimed the "best ever". It'll happen even if he never wins the French. |

Barb's Vidalia Onion Recipe
This is a favorite at Summer courtside cookouts.
Preheat Oven to 350
5 Vidalia Onions
1 stick butter or margarine
2 sleeves Ritz Crackers
1 can grated parmesan cheese
Peel onions. Quarter and thinly slice the quarters
Melt butter or margarine in large skillet. Note: if using butter, melt over low heat to avoid burning the butter
Add onions to melted butter and saute over low heat until onions are limp.
In a 13X9 pan layer as follows:
place one half of the onions in the pan
heavily sprinkle parmesan cheese completely covering onions
crush one sleeve of Ritz and cover cheese
repeat layers
Bake uncovered @ 350 for 30 minutes or until golden and bubbly |
