| Mark this one down in your calendar books as I am going to actually say something positive about the Williams sisters. Whether you like them or dislike them ( everyone knows my stance on this subject) you have to give them credit for their longevity in a sport where it seems more and more players are burning out at a younger age. Case in point being the recent retirement of Justine Henin. Number one in the world and she calls it quits. Certainly a surprise with the French Open coming up on her strongest surface but she decided enough was enough. Others have gone before her. Martina Hingis couldn't beat the sisters, called it a day, came back, smoked some crack (hey, that rhymes) and quit again. Anna Kournikova was never going to win a tournament and retired to become everyone's favorite cover girl. Kim Clijsters, gone to be a wife and mother. Anastasia Myskina, I'm not sure what has happened to her but she is nowhere in the same area code of the top rankings. I'm sure there are some others but I think you get the point I'm trying to make. Through injuries, the death of a sibling, their parents divorce, fashion school and a host of other distractions the sisters have stayed at the top of the women's game. For that, I tip my hat to them. |

Recipe of the Month

 Summer Mint Peach Gazpacho Dip
Serves 10
8 diced fresh plum tomatoes
1 diced yellow pepper
1/2 red onion finely chopped
3 peaches, chopped
1 tb. olive oil
2 tb. fresh chopped mint
2 ts. salt
1 ts. ground black pepper
1 tb. rice wine vinegar
1 ts. lemon juice
Prepare one night ahead so flavors have a chance to blend well. Gently toss all the ingredients in a glass bowl and serve cold on top of sliced baquettes.
