Communicating with Your Doubles Partner
by Dennis Van Der Meer
When two players are on the same side of the court, it is absolutely essential that they communicate with each other before a point starts, and when it finishes. In addition there will be many times during the point as well that you will need to communicate with your partner. One way to communicate with your partner is with hand signals. For instance, if you want to poach on a return of serve, you can give your partner the signal behind your back. The signal universally is a closed fist that you are faking and not going anywhere, or you give a flat hand signal to let your partner know that you are poaching and that your partner should cover the line in case the opponent had seen you leave early and decided to hit down the line.... The Truth About Whole Grains
Doesn't it seem like everyone is talking about whole-grain foods these days? Whether you turn on a television or read a billboard, someone is referring to the USDA's recommendation to increase whole grains in our diets. While the recommendation is valid, what are the best sources of whole-grain food? General Mills would have you believe you can get them from a bowl of Lucky Charms. Unfortunately this is not true...commercial whole-grain cereals, breads and pastas (even though they start from whole-grains) do not even contain the good fats (lipids and sterols) that are the main reason for eating whole grains... Chef Paul’s Vegetable Marinated Kebabs
Marinate:
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon chili powder
½ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon ground cumin
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 ½ teaspoons honey
2 cloves of garlic, minced
Salt to taste
In medium bowl stir all ingredients together until smooth.
Kebabs:
Cut all vegetables into 1 ½ inch pieces
2 red peppers
2 green peppers
2 yellow peppers
4 yellow onions
2 large yellow squash
2 large zucchini
1 medium eggplant
Preheat grill or broiler
Thread vegetables onto wooden or metal skewers (if using wood, soak them in water for 1-2 hours to keep them from burning. You can make a single vegetable skewer or use an assortment on each skewer. Lightly brush each skewer with marinate. Broil/grill 4-6 inches from the heat 5 minutes per side or until browned or lightly charred and tender. If desired, serve with extra marinate.

Thank you David Nalbandian for saving what was about to be the worst season
ending championship in ATP Tour History. For the record Nalbandian came
back from two sets down to defeat Roger Federer in five thrilling sets in
the final. Anything would have been better than the semifinals in which
three of the four sets played were 6-0 bagels. Federer showed no mercy in a
double bagel butt kicking of Gaston Gaudio and Nalbandian had a first set
bagel against Nikolay Davydenko.
The tournament was hindered by the withdrawals of four of the top eight singles qualifiers. Three (Hewitt, Nadal and Roddick) pulled out before the
tournament started while Agassi withdrew after one match. In contrast the
doubles field had all eight top teams show up ready to play. And the ATP
wants more singles players to compete in doubles, when they won’t even show
up to play singles. Look for tanking and more withdrawals to occur if the
charade continues. |
